Bio
With a design approach built on a bedrock of craft
learned as a student of architecture, art history and interior design,
Alfred Cooney has been a dedicated designer since growing up in metro
Philadelphia. The scope of his work includes feature films,
commercials, theatre scenic design, exhibition design, retail interiors
and residential projects.
Cooney holds a Master of Architecture degree from Savannah College of
Art & Design and while still in Georgia, the US Olympic
Committee commissioned him to create a large-scale, public art
installation for the 1996 Sailing Competition. Following his early
experience as an interior designer for Giorgio Armani Le Collezione in
New York, he was the Director of Animation at RenderScope, a CG
animation studio in Orlando, Florida. Cooney has appeared on HGTV's
Design Basics, Working with Designers and been the resident scenic
designer for the Academy Repertory Theatre Company of New Jersey.
Cooney established himself as a film production designer in the New
York indie film world where he is known as a hands-on designer and
creative collaborator. Now working from Los Angeles, his portfolio
remains remarkable for its diversity of
genres and filmmaking styles, it also shows a designer who is capable
of working in a variety of periods and locations.
Whatever the project, Cooney's eye for telling detail unfailingly draws
you deep into the worlds he creates for the silver screen, the stage
and the real world.
