Hallmark Channel Promo - When Henry Met Sally
2006
Director/DP: Brad Rushing
Producer:  Harry Shelley
Agency: Stun Creative
Production Designer: Alfred Cooney

Producer Harry Shelley and Stun Creative Agency asked to replicate two scenes from "When Harry Met Sally" for the CEO of Hallmark, Henry Schleiff. Henry becomes Harry and reacts to the original shots of Meg Ryan playing Sally. The goal was to make the backgrounds appear to be from the original movie.

The Bedroom Scene
The original shot - "I've gotta go..."

Not the original shot for that line in the movie but, this was a more interesting background with the window.
A quick, on-set still of the shot with our "Henry".
How we did it - Two flats, three curtains, a little paint and really nice soft lighting.
The Orgasm Scene

The diner backgound - not from the original "Orgasm Scene" but easier to achieve on a limited budegt and timeline. We went for a similar look and decided to liven it up a bit with a window in the background.

Here's our Henry sitting in taking notes from Brad Rushing, the DP/Director. It is the barstools and extras that really sell it.

A wider shot showing our Meg in the forground and the very simple set. Three basic flats that aren't even entirely painted and a little bit of camo net outside of the window. A bar and two tables complete the illusion.
The Drawings

The basic set-up used to recreate the original shot. This document used to communicate to the Producer and Agency that we could replicate the set very efficiently. The DP used it to get a sense of the space he was going to need around it and the Gaffer used it on the day to begin setting lights.

A camera view from inside the 3D model that approximates the shot. The DP was able to get a sense of camera position, lens length and rough framing.
